 Greeting Sequence Bols and Tatkar (rhythmic sequence) Mudras  Chakkars Storytelling - Paragraph 1 Storytelling - Paragraph 2  Analysis The first aspects of Kathak I feel I apply well are hand-eye coordination as well as correct positioning.  As you can see my focus is always following where my arms are, and my knees are bent with my feet turned out correctly, giving my stance a triangular quality which is key in Kathak dance.  A key part of Kathak dance is keeping grounded and low with your bottom half, with your upper body staying elongated and upright. I feel I demonstrate this well as my back remains straight with my neck elongated yet my lower body is strong and sturdy, and my feet are flat which allows me to perform tatkars more effectively.  Another aspect I feel I perform well is the Bols which are used in Kathak as counts, as well as Tatkars, which is rhythmic footwork.   Kathak Dance  The word Kathak derives from Sanskrit - where Katha means story. This dance form originated in ancient northern India - and the poets and performers who recited and sang epics, stories, and mythology were known as Kathakas, meaning storytellers.  It was originally performed in temples and palaces and was very encouraged and celebrated in the royal court - poetry was combined with rhythmic movements to portray stories from Hindu scriptures. Nomadic poets brought it all around the country, and it became more theatrical and emotional over time as it grew.  Comparison to Western Ballet There are many similarities between Kathak and Ballet. Both are very technical and require extensive training from a young age and many years of practice to become professional. In your performances on Wednesday  8 th   March at the One Night Only Showcase and the Punchdrunk interpretation of ‘A Dolls House’ on Wednesday 29 th   March 2023 you performed the ensemble dance sequence with accurate techniques and stylistic performance qualities specific to contemporary dance. As a performer you were very effective in the projection of the movement material and emotional intensity to an audience.
