Unit 13 and 14 Teacher feedback Kathak Dance

 Teacher feedback:

Rosy, you have worked very hard in all aspects of the Kathak dance style project and made clear progress in a style that is challenging and was new to you.  In your Performance on Wednesday 14th June 2023 you performed this ensemble dance piece with a strong mastery of the basic Kathak qualities we have been learning, applied to telling the story to a public audience. Though your commitment to developing skills in the Kathak style you were able to execute the hand eye coordination demanded of the mudras with clarity. Yu also developed the quality of extension and poise in your gestures and posture very successfully. 

You consistently work in a highly collaborative way with your group and you take great care during the rehearsal of the piece to achieve strong accuracy in formations, and timing in relation to each other. This thorough rehearsal process ensured that you were fully confident in your material, contributing to such a successful performance outcome. You consistently respond in a positive way to feedback from your teacher and/or peers and use this feedback to further refine and develop your work

Swinging Sequence  This exercise develops balance, strength and coordination. Our arms and legs must work in a cohesive way, while maintaining a controlled balance and support our bodies using strength in our legs, arms and core. I think I was successful at allowing the arms and legs to coordinate nicely and therefore maintaining a smooth swinging motion using momentum. To improve, I’d like to use gravity to fuel my movements even more and fully give in to its force, as using and giving in to gravity is a key element of contemporary dance. I’d also like to experiment more with supporting my body with my arms and becoming more confident in my arm strength.  This sequence develops many contemporary skills, such as floor work, giving in to gravity, and the transferring of weight.  Floorwork Swinging Sequence  This exercise helps to develop flexibility and strength.
